Rwanda Prepares to Celebrate Kwita Izina 20
Rwanda is set to celebrate the 20th edition of Kwita Izina, the country’s world-renowned gorilla naming ceremony. This annual event, which will be held on September 5, 2025, continues to highlight Rwanda’s strong commitment to conservation, community, and sustainable tourism.
This year, several baby gorillas will be named, including members from the Cyuzuzo, Titus, and Hirwa families. The ceremony not only gives each newborn gorilla a name but also underscores the importance of protecting mountain gorillas and their habitat in the Volcanoes National Park.
Kwita Izina has grown into a global platform that brings together conservationists, leaders, celebrities, and communities to celebrate Rwanda’s achievements in safeguarding wildlife. Over the past two decades, the initiative has played a central role in increasing gorilla populations, creating awareness, and generating community-driven benefits from conservation.
The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) invites the world to join in this historic edition of Kwita Izina, whether in person or virtually via the Visit Rwanda YouTube channel. As we mark 20 years of this extraordinary tradition, Rwanda reaffirms its role as a leader in conservation and eco-tourism.
