Rwanda Flag Raised in Ottawa to Mark Kwibohora31

On July 4, 2025, the Rwanda High Commission in Canada joined Rwandans and friends of Rwanda in celebrating Kwibohora31 with a special flag-raising ceremony at Ottawa City Hall.

The event was graciously hosted by the Mayor of Ottawa, Mark Sutcliffe, and attended by members of the diplomatic corps, local leaders, and the Rwandan community. The raising of the Rwandan flag in the heart of Canada’s capital symbolized Rwanda’s resilience, unity, and continued journey of progress since liberation in 1994.

Kwibohora, Rwanda’s Liberation Day, is a moment of reflection and gratitude—honoring the sacrifices that restored peace and paved the way for a new chapter in the nation’s history. It is also an occasion to reaffirm Rwanda’s values of dignity, self-reliance, and shared responsibility.

The Rwanda High Commission extends appreciation to the City of Ottawa and to all who joined in this commemoration, standing together in solidarity with Rwanda as the country continues to build a brighter future.
