The High Commission welcomes Rwandans and other nationalities who wish to celebrate their civil marriage in accordance with Rwandan marriage Law. - Copy of Passport page of both applicants.
- Proof of status document in Canada of both applicants.
- Certificate of celibacy or single status for both applicants/Attestation de Celibat.
- Fee: Money order of $35 CAD payable to the Embassy of Rwanda "Rwanda High Commission" by money order (from Canada Post) or certified bank cheque.
- If you are divorced, you need to present original final divorce / dissolution papers bearing the court's original stamp
- If you are a widower/widow, you need to present a death certificate of your wife/husband
- If sent by Mail, all documents should be sent to 294 Alber Street Suite 404, Ottawa, Ontario Postal code K1P 6E6.

Note:
- On the day of the wedding, you will need to bring with you at least two other people to witness the ceremony and sign to that effect (if an interpreter is required, they must act as a witness).
- Your marriage cannot go ahead unless legal formalities have been completed.
- Return envelopes with no tracking numbers will not be accepted
- An appointment is required to give notice of marriage at our consular office and you must both attend our consular office in person to give your Notices of Marriage. No one else can do so on your behalf.
- Both applicants must be 18 years old or over.
- You will need to show your passport as proof of your nationality and prooof of legal residency in Canada (utility bill or bank statement) .
- Either one or both of you MUST be Rwandan national.
- Present authenticated deed for the proof of settlement of the dowry to the family of the fiancée.
- Copies of divorce/dissolution papers can be obtained from the Rwanda,Canada,Haiti, Dominican Republic and Cuba court where the decree absolute was granted.
- If your spouse has passed away, their death certificate must be produced. If your name does not appear anywhere on that death certificate, then we will require to see your previous marriage certificate to confirm your relationship to the deceased.
If either of you have been married before, you will need your original final divorce/dissolution papers bearing the court’s original stamp*. If divorce/dissolution papers are not in Kinyarwanda or English or French, you must provide a translation in addition to the original documents. If you are giving notice and following your divorce, you have reverted back to your maiden/previous name (which is different to that on the decree absolute); then your previous marriage certificate will be required to confirm the original name. Please ask when you make your appointment booking if you think that this may apply to you.
Other documents may also be required depending on your circumstances. For example, any change of name documents such as deed poll or change of name deed.
